In our Family the day before Xmas is as much fun as the day of. We spend the whole day preparing the next days feast. The menu is the same each year and highly anticipated, it includes my favorite Mole con Romeritos (these are hand made tortas de camarones with mole and romeritos) and other typical Mexican dishes.
While we where busy preparing the food there where some fresh tacos being made in the garden for that day Tacos al Pastor... the best. Once the food for the next day was ready we went for the tacos and finished them all!
We dont have any pictures from Xmas day (buhuuu) but it was a lot of fun. We ate so much and had a great time exchanging gifts and hanging out with the whole family, great memories :)
There is nothing better than starting off the day with my dad's famous scrambled eggs with frijoles and tortillas after a long morning walk at the beach, my brothers delicious agua de jamaica and the sound of the shore break at every hour. That's our everyday here at Puerto Morelos, that special place where we long to go every year. That special place every one should have when they want to relax and repose. Almost every year we come here to spend Christmas and New Years, to enjoy the beach and escape our everyday doings.
My dad's family lives in Cancun, and Puerto Morelos is just thirty minutes away, so besides enjoying our vacations on an idyllic place, we also get to enjoy the family. We have never been too fond of big hotels, all included resorts, and crowded inns, we have always been more of the quiet vacation complex and small secluded places and that is why this place is so special to us.
There isn't much that I enjoy more than sharing a meal with friends :)
In my family these gatherings have always been a regular and treasured thing not just for Christmas but year round we always find a good excuse to get together. My mom has always encouraged us to make time to disconnect from all the distractions of the day and connect with each other over a meal. It could be the whole family getting together or just the six of us over dinner. I just love this time spent together, the honest sometimes deep or light fun conversations that develop...time stands still and flies at the same time.
So this year together in Spain with my sister we wanted to keep this tradition going. Before leaving for Mexico to spend the Holidays with the family we did a couple of dinners with friends and it was a lot of fun. All I can say is that I cant wait for many more gatherings like these in this new coming year.
It's the holidays and everyone heads to their hometown to spend Christmas with the family. It's the time of year where we want to celebrate with those we love, a time to gather around and make amazing dinners and spend those unique moments sharing something special; being together.
And so as all of our friends where headed their own ways to celebrate with their loved ones, we thought wait, what about celebrating all of us together before we each head off. After all we are our own sort of family, spending half the year studying together.
And so we hung out to make dinner, but not just any dinner but a succulent spanish dish "arroz con bogavante". One word AMAZING. Credits go mostly to Jorge and Juli for making the incredible dish, them being the best young aspiring chefs I know to date.
With some great red spanish vino and the most amazing friend composed family ever, we spend one of the funniest, delicious, and cheerful evenings of the year.
1. There's something about a clear blue sky and just that one plain leaving its trail thats just beautiful. 2. Well, here are a few photos of the past months (I cannot believe it has been 3 months already since we moved to Barna!) They are just couple of shots that capture what we've been up to which is...getting to know Barcelona (walking A LOT and getting lost is actually quite fun here) traveling a bit, hanging out with new friends, having old friend and family visit, eating, cooking and concerts!
Of course its not always like this, we study, work and do a bunch of regular things but we'll just stick to posting the fun stuff! But even when its a regular day we always try to make something out of if, whether it be cooking new recipe, a walk thru the city (you can never get bored walking around here...you never know what your going to find! a protest, live music, lost tourists... its a lot of fun) or simply go for a run which is a great way to take a break and clear our heads when the stress from school or work is too much. We'll be posting more pictures soon so stay tuned :)
We are best friends, sisters and partners in crime and have been so from the start. We are very different but very much the same, its a good kind of contradiction... a perfect combination. For a number of reasons (too many and some personal to mention) the universe transpired to give us an amazing opportunity: a year to live in one of the best cities we know Barcelona.
So the purpose of this blog is to share with our friends and family all our adventures, stories, photos, rad things we discover in the city (and in our travels) and great moments shared with friends!
We are amateur cooks, both artists in our own way and love live music more than anything so (spoiler!) these will be regular posts. We hope you get to enjoy this blog as much as we do putting it together.
